Top Ten Tips for Keeping Your Cat Healthy

There are many things you can do to keep your cat healthy. There are however a couple of basic things that are absolute necessities. These include the following.

Regular Check-Ups

You should take your cat to the Vet not only for regular vaccinations but for regular check ups as well. Your Vet would know best if there is anything wrong with your cat?s coat, organs, body parts and mannerisms.

Proper Grooming

De-clawing is never advised, it is an amputation and your cat will suffer greatly! it is recommended that you clip your cat?s claws as needed. Just taking the sharp tips off is enough and then provide them with a scatching post and they will do the rest. Brushing your cats fur will help to keep it smooth and get rid of loose hairs before they become hairballs and they will love you for it. Always brush in the direction of the hair growth.

Poisons Out of Reach

Store cleaning agents, automobile liquids and pest poisons in securely lidded containers. Store all your containers out of your kitty?s reach. Also check if our houseplants are not among the numerous plants that could be toxic to your feline friend.

Pet Tag

Cats are naturally curious and occasionally like to roam around. Make sure you attach an identification tag on your cat's collar to make it easier for others to return your cat.

Human Scraps

There are certain types of human foods that are poisonous to cats. Even if you fed them non-poisonous human food, you could still be providing additional cat food that can properly meet your cat?s nutritional needs.

Play Time

Your cat needs to play to keep from getting bored and depressed. Provide a variety of toys for your cat. You should also make it a habit to constantly play and interact with your cat.

Do Not Medicate On Your Own

Certain human medicines are extremely dangerous to give to your cats and could cause death in a very short amount of time. Do not medicate your cat on your own. Always consult the Vet even in minor medical cases.

Outdoor Fun

Cats used to live in the wild. Your cat would therefore appreciate the occasional sunlight. Bring your cat along with you for an adventure around the garden. Just make sure that you keep him out of the road and away from potential plant hazards.

Right Food

Cats need animal-based, moisture-rich protein. They should only be fed specifically formulated canned cat food. Other pet owners also consider a raw meat diet to be a healthy option for cats.

Cat-Proof Home

Keep ornaments, small sharp objects and anything else that is small enough for your cat to swallow out of their reach. Swallowed objects may block or puncture your cat?s intestines.
